About Matt

I wanted to design something that was tough enough for work, loose enough for the gym and good enough to wear over the weekend.

Finding an interest is easy, finding your passion is hard.

I started working in construction in 2016. Working with my hands was easy.  It came naturally to me and I instantly knew this was how I was going to earn a living.

I worked through my apprenticeship with  no real desire other than to reach the end and become licensed.

I began working for Meridian.  Under the guidance of my boss,  and now mentor, was propelled out of  my comfort zone. I went from troubled and slack to motivated and determined.
During my third year I moved up to managing teams, demanding more of myself, with my boss breaking me in and pushing me to reach my full potential.
Working my way up to manage the big jobs gave me huge satisfaction, until the big jobs stopped getting bigger and I found myself slowing down.

Happy working my hours I thought to myself, what am I working towards? A nicer car? A house? Some cool toys?
I was at a lull, lacking motivation. Searching for something.  Anything really.

I spent my time watching these crazy motivated guys on the internet, working out at stupid hours saying you don’t need sleep… all a bit much.
However, the one phrase that kept coming up was “do what you love and you won’t work a day in your life”.

I was now at a point where I got to choose my career, not fall into a career because I had dropped out of school, my head was clear, the world had finally become my oyster.

My passion is to present someBODY, with someTHING, that I have made and seeing them enjoy it.  My hard work put into practice, seeing them benefit from something I have created.
Realising this on a boat whilst not catching any fish, I knew that the only thing I wanted to create for somebody else, was clothing.

Standing for a brand that I knew everyone could trust and come back to, not being so out of touch and commercialised.

And so the idea for Ninety Degree was born. I started with a simple item- a Hoodie. I designed and manufactured the Hoodie from scratch. I knew if I persisted with this item, then it could be a real thing.

Back and forth the sampling began. A long and difficult process for someone who had  no experience at all!
I reached out to a friend in the Industry and quickly learnt the ropes.  Designing  and manufacturing the first hoodie on my own, I learnt the manufacturing process and time taken to develop a collection.

I came up with a final product and loved it. Soon  everyone wanted one.

I finally created someTHING.

SomeBODY tried on the hoodie. The look of approval on their face.

That’s the moment I knew.

I had found my passion.

I want ninety degree to be a brand people can trust

..not be so out of touch and commercialised.

The idea for Ninety Degree came about the same time my workwear shorts ripped. I was fed up with the usual purchase, only buying that brand  because the guy next to me wore them.
Listening to the frustrations from my workmates, I set about making these shorts better. Reinforce this, reinforce that, a pocket here.
All these workwear companies making the shorts were too busy in their offices to listen to what  people really want. The actual people wearing the product.. I am here to change that.
